Frequently Asked Questions

General Search Guidelines

  • All searches are case insensitive. Thus all search information that you enter can be in any case: upper, lower or mixed case.
  • Textbox labels with a red asterisk at the end are required text fields.
  • You can enter partial information in any search textbox. For example, for a name search, if you enter in the string SMI for the last name and the letter J for the first name then your search results will show all names with last names that begin with SMI and with first names that begin with the letter J.
  • Usually the more information you enter in your search criteria the faster you will receive your search results.
  • Your search results information will be display in the right frame titled Real Estate Search Results. To view more information on an account simply click your mouse anywhere in the account row.

Frequently Asked Questions

I can't find the information I am looking for. What can I do?

Below are some reasons why you may not be able to find the information you are looking for.
  • You have entered incorrect information.
  • Our database contains incorrect information.
  • We have stored information in our database different from what you expect. For example a name search of SAINT LOUIS will not show as many records as a search on ST LOUIS.
To find the information you are looking for, try providing less search criteria in order to broaden your search results. See below for more specific suggestions.

If searching by a Locator Number:
  1. Check that you have entered in the locator number correctly.
  2. The third character is always an alfpha letter from B to Z. A common mistake is to enter a zero for the third character instead of the letter O. All the rest of the characters are numbers.

If searching by Address:
  1. Check all the search information that you have entered for accuracy.
  2. Try removing the direction and suffix values if present.
  3. Try reducing or removing the address number if present.
  4. Try reducing the street spelling to fewer characters. It is possible that the street name spelling in our database does not match yours.
  5. Searches that begin with the word SAINT should be abbreviated to ST with no abbreviation period. For example a search for SAINT ANDREWS would be entered as ST ANDREWS.

If searching by Name:
  1. Check all the search information that you have entered for accuracy.
  2. Try removing the first name if any.
  3. Try reducing the last name (person, business or organization) spelling to fewer characters. It is possible that the last name spelling in our database does not match yours.
  4. Searches that begin with the word SAINT should be abbreviated to ST with no abbreviation period. For example a search for SAINT LOUIS COUNTY would be entered as ST LOUIS COUNTY.
  5. If a person's last name contains a space do not include a first name in your search and don't end the last name with the space.

Why does the search results page sometimes take a long time to display information?

Although our servers are configured to return search information in a reasonable amount of time under normal workloads, sometimes searches can take longer than usual to return information. Some reasons for this are listed below. To decrease the search time by providing as much information as possible. This is particularly true of address and name searches.
  • Address and name searches can take longer to process especially when the address street name contains many addresses such as OLIVE or a person's last name is common such as SMITH. In this case providing an address number or first name will decrease the search time.
  • Our servers may be handling a heavier than normal amount of traffic. Perhaps try searching at another time. The best times to search are in the evening and on the weekends.
  • The Internet infrastructure may be experiencing problems.
  • In some cases home wireless systems can result in slower downloads.

Why does the search results page state that my search timeout period has elapsed?
